Family gatherings are more commonplace in December, and older adults without families can experience more acute social isolation. Since isolation is both a risk factor for and a consequence of elder abuse, we decided to ask you - our social media followers and colleagues - to commit to speaking with an older adult in December. NYC Elder Abuse Center Director, Dr. Mark Lachs and Deputy Director, Risa Breckman, LCSW attended the Symposium on Elder Abuse, which was held at the White House on June 14 in recognition of the 7th Annual World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. Dr. Lachs spoke about financial exploitation as part of a panel of leading elder abuse experts from around the country. The event was webcast live on the White House website.
