This Gatekeeper elder abuse training is designed for individuals who are social service professionals as well as those who, because of the nature of their work, have formal and informal interactions with older adults. In this workshop we will focus on the role of organizations and agencies that have programs designed for volunteers who work with older adults in a variety of settings, e.g., friendly visiting services or assignments at senior centers. We will also examine the role of homecare agencies in identifying and addressing elder abuse issues experienced by their clients
Topics include:
• Identifying and defining the role of the community gatekeeper
• Indicators and factors leading to and/or causing abuse
• Elder abuse trainings and reporting protocols for agencies that work with volunteers
• The responsibilities and challenges faced by homecare agencies in serving this vulnerable population
• Referrals and Resources
