The Center for Victim Research invites you to attend our upcoming webinar, “Preventing Elder Abuse Through Research-and-Practice Collaboration: The EMPOWER Program Demonstration” on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 from 2 to 3 pm ET.
The EMPOWER: Building Late-Life Resilience program is one of two rigorous, multi-phase demonstration projects funded by the National Institute of Justice to prevent the abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation of community-residing older adults. During its recently completed Planning Phase, researchers at the Urban Institute worked closely with practitioners at the Area Agency on Aging, Region One, to build and pretest a theory- and evidence-informed program to strengthen vulnerable older adults’ resilience.
This webinar aims to help researchers and practitioners working in similar partnerships focused on elder abuse or other victimization research, and teams interested in multi-phase evaluations – which funders are increasingly supporting. Presenters will describe EMPOWER’s conceptual development and pretesting in Maricopa County, Arizona; current plans for a rigorous yet ethically responsible Pilot Study; and challenges recruiting and retaining older adults in program evaluations.
