Family gatherings are more commonplace in December, and older adults without families can experience more acute social isolation. Since isolation is both a risk factor for and a consequence of elder abuse, we decided to ask you - our social media followers and colleagues - to commit to speaking with an older adult in December. He has been a special advisor to the Ambassador of Spain to UNESCO on the NUNC initiative, a series of dialogues concerning the roles of science and the humanities in the human and biospheric future, and a consultant to the city of San Sebastián, Spain on the planning of a UNESCO Category 2 Centre.
He has directed and supervised archaeological and cultural heritage projects in Syria, India, and Yemen, and was associate director and cultural information manager for the Getty Conservation Institute & World Monuments Fund Iraq Cultural Heritage Conservation Initiative.
He was a visiting professor at the University of Vienna and has also lectured extensively about globalization, conflict, intercultural dialogue, cultural identity and heritage to numerous groups and organizations, such as: NATO, the Institute for Human and Social Sciences of the National Defense Academy, Vienna, Austria, the Department of Cultural Heritage of the Region of Sicily, and the American Institute for Roman Culture.
He received his doctorate from the Faculty of Oriental Studies, Oxford University; his M.A. degree in Art History and Archaeology from the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University; his B.A. degree in English Literature from Wesleyan University; and was a Visiting Scholar at Harvard University and at the American University in Cairo. He is a member of the Board of Trustees the Institute for Contemporary World Affairs in Washington, DC and the Board of Trustees of Deep Dish Television Network in New York City.
